Guidelines & Rules
Testbed Sim Guidelines and Rules. They apply on the sim and in our community spaces, including the Discord.
01Second Life & Terms of Service
- All members and visitors to Testbed are expected to adhere to the Linden Lab and Second Life Terms of Service (ToS).
- While accessing the Testbed sim and/or community portals (i.e. Discord), you agree to abide by the Testbed Sim Guidelines and Rules outlined in this document.
- These rules and guidelines are not exhaustive. The Testbed team reserves the right to add, subtract, or otherwise modify them.
02General Conduct
- Testbed aims to be a fun and welcoming community. We ask members and visitors to be respectful to one another. Try to resolve issues privately and amicably.
- We have a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding hate speech, the use of slurs or other threatening language, harassment, or discrimination of any kind. Roleplay is not an excuse to bypass this policy and using roleplay to communicate real-world hatred or to target another will not be tolerated.
- Testbed is an adult-rated (A) sim. Children and child-like avatars are not allowed.
- Doxxing (sharing real-life information without consent) and threats of harm are strictly prohibited and will be reported to Linden Lab.
- Behaving outside of the guidelines and rules can result in community actions including warnings, strikes, and temporary or permanent bans.
03Testbed Team
- Follow instructions from the Testbed team.
- Do not threaten, harass, or abuse team members. Do not argue with team members in public channels regarding team actions; use the support ticket system to appeal decisions.
04Chat & Communication
- Do not spam local, group, or Discord channels.
- Do not advertise other sims, products, or services without approval from the team.
- Limit excessive out-of-character (OOC) chat in designated roleplaying areas.
- Limit the use of gestures and/or sounds within in-character (IC) spaces. Additionally, do not use suggestive slappers or interactables within IC spaces.
- Do not engage in sexual or erotic roleplay (ERP) in local chat outside of private homes.
05Avatars
- Your avatar must faithfully represent the species chosen in the system.
- Avatars must be realistic with proportions that are reasonable for the setting.
- No visible genitalia outside of private spaces.
06Roleplay Etiquette
- All roleplay at Testbed is based on consent. You may not force others into scenes or combat without their affirmative consent. However, you may not avoid interactions or combat if your character is being aggressive, threatening, or offensive. In those instances your character would be considered the aggressor.
- Do not assume your character to be all-powerful or all-knowing (powergaming). Make sure character interactions are realistic and be mindful of other characters in a scene. Weaknesses make for more interesting characters.
- Do not use out-of-character knowledge to influence your character’s actions or dialogue (metagaming). Your character may only know what they’ve discovered through roleplay.
- Do not dictate the thoughts, actions, or dialogue of another character (godmodding). The combat system will decide the results of an action in combat, but in general roleplay, leave room for others to decide how your character’s words and actions affect them.
07Game Systems
- Do not exploit or circumvent the game systems. This includes but is not limited to actions like posting gibberish to earn roleplay XP; duping (copying) items or resources; real-money trade for in-game items, credits, or characters; or abusing game systems for an advantage or profit.
08Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- You may not use others’ creations as inputs for AI without express permission. This includes but is not limited to photographs or screenshots of others’ avatars, copyrighted works posted in-world or on other Testbed portals like Discord, and written text.
- Please only share AI-generated and AI-edited work within the designated AI areas of the community portals.
09Fighting Other Players
- Player vs player fights have a ratio limit. The bigger side can have up to 4 more people than the smaller side, or twice as many, whichever is more: 1v5, 2v6, 3v7, 4v8, and double after that. The battle lobby shows whether a fight is within ratio.
- A fight over the ratio can only start if the smaller side agrees. When the fight is started, everyone on the smaller side is asked. If anyone says no, or does not answer in time, the fight does not start and everyone stays in the lobby.
- Once combat is declared, no one else can join.
- A side that is outnumbered gets an Adrenaline bonus and fights harder. The bigger the gap, the bigger the bonus. There are three levels: Slight when you are a little outnumbered (like 2v3 or 3v4), Strong when the other side has about twice as many (like 2v4 or 3v5), and Max when you are badly outnumbered (like 3v7 or 1v4). The lobby shows which one your side gets. It is set when the fight starts and does not go past Max, so agreeing to fight even more outnumbered does not make you stronger.
- The more outnumbered you are, the easier it is to escape a fight. Being wounded makes escaping harder.
- These rules cover fights between two groups of players. They do not apply to NPC fights, bounty claims, or fights with more than two sides. Agreeing to fight outnumbered does not change Roleplay Etiquette rule 1: combat still needs consent.
10Character Creation Guidelines
Prior to posting a bio, please consider the sim backstory which can be found at: swtestbed.com/backstory.html
The galaxy map shows the playable worlds, connected worlds and the routes between them.
To ensure a consistent and immersive roleplay experience, all characters should be created with the current state of the galaxy and server progression in mind.
Starting Characters
- All characters begin with 0 EXP, regardless of their background.
- Your biography explains your character's past, not their mechanical capabilities.
- Characters should have room to grow, fail, learn, and evolve through roleplay.
Progression
Characters do not begin with advanced equipment, training, abilities, or resources.
This includes (but is not limited to):
- Lightsabers
- Beskar equipment or armor
- Advanced Force abilities or training
- Rare relics or prototype technology
- Significant wealth, influence, or organizational resources
- Mastery of specialized disciplines
If it must be earned through the EXP system, your character does not start with it.
The State of the Galaxy
The galaxy is emerging from a prolonged period of stagnation. Much knowledge, technology, and tradition has been lost or fragmented.
As a result:
- Ancient techniques are not common knowledge.
- Lost technologies should be rediscovered through roleplay rather than included in a starting biography.
- Beskar forging techniques have been lost, and existing Beskar artifacts cannot simply be reproduced.
Force-Sensitive Characters
Force sensitivity is rare.
Being Force-sensitive does not mean your character begins with Force powers, lightsaber training, or advanced knowledge of the Force.
All Force abilities, training, and progression are earned through roleplay and the EXP system.
Public use of the Force may attract the attention of the Jedi Order and others interested in Force-sensitive individuals.
Character Concepts
At creation characters cannot be:
- Legendary heroes, experts, or masters at character creation.
- Designed to bypass server progression through their backstory.
Your character's story should begin here, their greatest achievements should happen through roleplay, not before it.
